space for people —
free from motor vehicles
We believe that people should be able to:
gather together to dine, shop, walk, talk - free from the air and noise pollution of motor vehicles
walk, bike, and roll on extended stretches of our city - without the threat of motor vehicles
have more portions of their city that are not dominated by motor vehicles, the drivers of which kill someone in San Francisco every nine days and seriously injure them every few hours
“…automobiles should be purged from Valencia Street.”
— Former San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency Board Chair,
Malcolm Heinicke, January 28, 2020
let’s make more of this…
these streets used to be for cars…now they are open just for people. more examples here
More real-world examples of what Valencia for the People could be here
“If we can’t exclude motor vehicles from a vibrant corridor full of bars (don’t drink/drive), outdoor dining, retail parklets, and schools, in the heart of San Francisco where can we?”
